Utilize theories, principles and data associated with human factors/usability engineering across product lines including identifying, planning, monitoring, and executing product development activities for projects to ensure superior usability.Provides technical contribution within an area of expertise as a member of a multidisciplinary team of engineers in the Research and Development division. Leads task analysis, use error research, requirement development, analysis, detailed design and verification activities for a section of a complete product. Collaborates with other team members on the overall design of the final product, under the guidance of the project leader.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Completes activities with robust performance through a plan or program* Applies technical competencies in somewhat difficult situations* Identifies technical problems and provides innovative and creative solutions* Shares technical knowledge with others in the team* Generates alternatives and takes reasonable risks while solving technical problems* Generates detailed, high quality technical documentation to capture and communicate designs* Seeks knowledge of the business, market, industry and competitive environment* Completes assigned tasks on time with minimal supervision* Uses existing tools and best practices to report and track product and process metrics* Informs others proactively about developments or issues that affect their work, and their ability to meet commitments* Uses collaborative communication style to negotiate win-win outcomes* Debate constructively and accepts ideas from others* Tends to be seen as original and value-added in brainstorming sessions* Generates alternative solutions to problems or processes* Provides Human Factors expertise across product range including identifying, planning, monitoring, and executing product development activities for projects to ensure superior usability* Collaborates in activities to develop the context of use and user needs/requirements including ethnographic research, use case/task analysis, and development of user profiles* Works with the Industrial Designers to assist in the translation of user needs and requirements into user interface design solution concepts* Uses appropriate Human Factors techniques to work with end users to determine end user behavior, preferences, and usage models and help to integrate these into design requirements and design concepts* Participates in the development of physical mock-ups and interactive prototypes of design concepts* Develops and directs formative usability studies during concept development and summative usability studies for human factors validation* Develops Statements of Work and contracts with external Human Factors vendors when needed to support workload of multiple projects.* Writes clear test plans, set up test environments, manages recruitment of study participants, schedules research sites, moderates usability sessions, analyzes test results, identifies design improvement opportunities, and authors summary reports that adhere to industry standard
