A lead engineer focuses on understanding/defining the customer needs; creates product functional/performance requirements and architecture necessary to meet those needs; evaluates constraints and makes trade off decisions; creates system design requirements and leads the development of the module level design requirements; leads the product safety and security risk management activities including DFMEA's; leads the identification of technical risks and mitigations, develops the verification and validation plans, protocols, scripts, execution, regression, and reports.* Leads requirement analysis, detailed design, and verification activities for a product or solution.* Makes difficult design trade-offs and decisions about features, schedule, quality and cost.* Seeks the optimal technology solutions to problems from internal and external options and applies appropriate methodology to identify issues/concerns* Primary accountability for major element of a project, determines all tasks that are required, and is responsible for project outcome* Designs, develops and/or directs research and tests to validate effect and consequences of designs, process or product enhancements across projects and/or products* Proactively determines measures and standards of success for project, product, and process quality within project teams* Other duties may be assignedThe lead engineer works in close collaboration with the project manager and other functional team members to ensure the project/product success. With expert knowledge, the lead engineer provides guidance to other engineers on technical issues, engages in design reviews and help resolves the most complex problems. This lead engineer will be at the forefront of driving systems engineering methodology and VandV, best practices, and continuous improvement in RandD processes and projects. This position will include driving the use of model based systems engineering, Matlab, Simulink, SysML, Speedgoat, and DOORS.
