Cook Medical Research and Development Manager in Bloomington, Indiana
Overview
The primary purpose of the Research & Development Manager at Cook Medical is to design, test and technically document the feasibility, construction and production process of new and/or changed medical products. Manages day-to-day operations and provides leadership and direction to the functional team.
Responsibilities
• Serve as mentor and resource for others in R&D as well as to other departments• Represent R&D at interdepartmental meetings/activities• Helps refine and implement R&D practices/procedures• Ensure Design Control procedures are adhered to• Perform duties of R&D Engineer• Design new product ideas as assigned• Build and test new product prototypes• Initiate and oversee the pre-production run of new products• Plan the ongoing production of the product• Maintain design files for each new product and turn in at product completion for permanent record• Call on physicians to discuss product ideas or evaluations• Revise technical literature• Perform other duties as necessary
• Implement policies, programs and directives of senior management• Interview, select and approve all training for employees• Make recommendations for staff and equipment and have significant input into personnel matters
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology• Minimum 4 years engineering experience in the medical field and/or 5 years engineering experience with Cook Medical• Experience and understanding of the validation process• Proven project leadership skills
• Completion of a major development project involving all aspects of product development, along with a successful product release
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.• Good manual dexterity• Limited exposure to hazardous materials requiring protective covering
• Approximately 75% of the time is spent in a normal office environment requiring sitting and moving around the building, or in a "clean" environment product setting requiring protective clothing and safety glasses
• Approximately 25% of the time is spent in travel to various hospitals, physician's offices and public places
