Senior Mechanical Engineer

Allegion is looking for a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer capable of working collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment. The candidate will be responsible for Mechanical/ Electro-Mechanical design, development, and technical analysis of moderate scope and complexity, either independently or as part of a project team for Allegion’s Electronic Products and Solutions. This would include Generate, evaluate, analyze, and develop design concepts for systems, components and assemblies to achieve new product requirements and current product improvements. Responsibilities would include technical leadership of cross-functional teams; leading design reviews and supplier reviews; developing technical documentation; product change management; process development/enhancement. Ensures the correct processes, tooling and equipment are available to manufacture related parts in-house or at a specified supplier in a safe, quality and cost effective manner. The candidate selected will need to be an organized self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced design culture.

Duties and responsibilities

  • May possess and demonstrate advanced knowledge in a specialized field and broad knowledge of several related disciplines within a function.

  • Demonstrated experience executing Mechanical/Electromechanical subsystem design under limited supervision in support of larger projects.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, Mechanical/ElectroMechanical, and troubleshooting skills. Proven experience developing 3D models.

  • Proficiency with engineering tools including FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, Tolerance Stack Analysis & DFM/DFA.

  • Responsibility for delivering technical project documentation

  • May provide day-to-day direction and oversight for other employees. Has a solid knowledge of product category, understanding larger system aspects.

  • Capable of effectively working with all engineering disciplines in a team environment with good understanding of cross functional design processes (high focus on Systems Engineering, Hardware and Firmware)

  • First point of contact within engineering with external customer. Lead customer presentations.

  • Contribute to multiple projects, involving single components or subsystems. Guidance provided by manager. Some projects assigned by manager, some sought out by employee

  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate and work within a team environment both locally and remote.

  • Ability to relate to others, demonstrated resourcefulness and flexibility, active participation in decision making process.

  • Demonstrated understanding of cross functional processes. Provide technical leadership on cross-functional teams.

  • Capable of identifying system risks and developing mitigation plans

  • Can quickly assess a problem and identify the key technical issues. Bases decisions on fundamental engineering principles and has a firm understanding of how the principles apply to the problem. Has an understanding of the assumptions involved and accounts for the added risks.

  • Ability to solve problems and lead others in resolving problems

  • Implement and ensure adherence to engineering best practices, standards and procedures

  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, must be resourceful and flexible, and actively participate in decision making processes. Proactive in generating reports and preparing seminars.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, effective presentation skills

  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, engineering science, or equivalent from an ABET accredited university.

  • Qualifications

  • An engineering bachelor degree

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience

  • Experience with Mechanism Design, Creo, Solidworks, Windchill, Finite Element Analysis, Industry Standards/ Validation, Value Analysis Value Engineering, Designing for Harsh Environment Conditions is a plus
