This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a PEM Fuel Cell Balance of Plant Development & Integration Expert. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering & research Technology projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.


Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s). Knowledge of MS Office and CREO tools is preferred

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop complex PEM fuel cell balance of plant (BOP) systems using a multidisciplinary approach that include expertise in mechanical, electrical, systems, software, and process design engineering areas

  • Develop requirements for BOP components to meet application requirements

  • Design and select critical BOP components in collaboration with suppliers. Work with supplier to develop test plan and quality assurance plan to ensure that custom component meets requirements

  • Support component level, sub-system and system level sourcing and testing for performance, reliability and durability including fuel cell stacks, fuel cell power modules, humidification devices, DC/DC power conversion devices, batteries, sensors, blowers, pumps, motors, environmental testing and field testing

  • Collaborate with universities and national labs for benchmarking and optimizing PEM fuel cell BOP designs

  • Support development of experimental capabilities for PEM fuel cell system testing

  • Generate technical reports and presentations, with the ability to present information in a clear and organized manner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in relevant Engineering field

  • 7 years of experience in PEM fuel cell BOP design & development is required (“Hands on experience” is a must); 10 years of experience is preferred

  • Experience in component selection and component verification testing in collaboration with fuel cell component suppliers

  • Experience with heat exchangers (brazed plate, shell and tube, plate fine)

  • Experience with electro-mechanical hardware such as pumps, valves, and instrumentation

  • Ability to work in a start up like environment within the boundaries of a global corporation

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.

Salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
