A Service Engineer is needed for a global power leader in the Columbus, IN area. This position will work as a technical liaison between the company field service organization and the Engineering, Quality & Manufacturing organizations to identify, define and prioritize product problems (warranty claims) and implement solutions for automotive or off-highway engines.

Determine potential exposure to company on product problems and provide affected area with cost and customer impact information needed to establish priority for corrective action.
Participated in failure analyses on automotive or off-highway engine components to assist Filed Service Warranty, and Engineering with problem definitions.
Communicate frequently with in-field work locations like dealers and distributors to understand the troubleshooting process and work with them to get parts back
Pre-filter incoming field incidences from various data sources to create first awareness of issues in the field
Support product development teams and problem solving teams via the installation of field test engines/components and the monitoring/reporting of reliability data.
Provide Service input during Design Reviews, M Reviews, etc. to ensure the serviceability of new components and products.
Support the initial publication and subsequent revision of Service literature (O&M Manual, T&R Manual, Shop Manual, Service/Parts Topics, etc.) for automotive or off-highway engines.
Support the Dealer Technical or field service engineers Escalation process
Attend regular meetings and present their findings and communicate effectively with cross functional teams
Required Education, Experience & Skills:
Minimum of a Bachelors' Degree is required. Manager and team would prefer to see candidates with degrees in ME, IE, EE, AgE, Automotive Technology or similar.
Automotive experience either could have technician experience or as an engineer. Preferably in power train (engines, transmissions)
Service experience (reading claims, talking to customers to get pertinent information to help understanding of an issue)
Ability to troubleshooting product issues over the phone - problem solving skills
strong team environment experience
Ability and discipline to clearly define and document product problems.
Ability to manage multiple work assignments in a dynamic work environment (e.g. Time Management skills).
Ability to solve ambiguous, complex problems systematically using data-based problem solving techniques.
Understanding of engineering analysis tools, statistical methods and project management tools.
strong understanding of internal combustion engines and engine systems
Flexibility to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people (Product Engineering, Field Service Personnel, End Customers, Warranty, Applications Engineering Purchasing, Aftermarket, etc.)
strong PC skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Power B I etc.).
Familiarity with basics of Six Sigma (Green Belt is a plus).
Familiarity with general statistical methods and data analysis skills are preferred.
