Qualifications
This is an exciting opportunity for Thermal and Fluid Sciences Technical Specialists #IN860 in Columbus, Indiana.
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Apply technical expertise in fundamentals of physics and thermodynamics on complex system analysis and integration.
Provide guidance using specialized knowledge of Thermal and Fluid Sciences Functional Excellence (TSFE) tools and processes to achieve optimized and robust solutions for engine and aftertreatment performance and emission controls.
Develop complex new analyses for vehicle, engine system and test cell models utilizing Matlab/Simulink, AVL BOOST, and GT Power.
Utilize knowledge of energy conversion systems to evaluate after treatment, air handling, fuel and filtration systems.
Support the development of aftertreatment controls and Hardware-in-loop (HIL) testing.
Develop a systematic problem-solving approach using Six Sigma tools and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify the root cause and implement robust fixes.
Apply Project Management tools and techniques to develop objectives, track timelines and receive feedback from stakeholders such as LiquidPlanner, Talent Management System (TMS) to lead complex projects and to provide technical direction for a project or project team, while remaining accountable for project success.
Report on key deliverables and comply with reliability and performance targets.
Optimize system performance for robust, on target operations through simulation and experiments to analyze and evaluate systems, develop engines and identify and resolve issues.
Design new vehicle tests and new complex test cell tests using engines and aftertreatment to determine evaluation methods.
Work with partner teams to deliver and integrate models in support of validation plans applying appropriate strategy including pure simulation.
Skills and Experience Required:
Fundamentals of physics and thermodynamics
Thermal and Fluid Sciences Functional Excellence (TSFE) tools and processes
Matlab/Simulink, AVL BOOST, and GT Power
Energy conversion systems
Six Sigma tools and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Simulation and experiments to analyze and evaluate systems, develop engines and identify and resolve issues
Project Management tools and techniques to develop objectives, track timelines and receive feedback from stakeholders
Hardware-in-loop (HIL) testing
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:
Position requires a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience as a Product Design Engineer, Thermal and Fluid Science Engineer, or related position.
Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field and 5 years of experience as a Product Design Engineer, Thermal and Fluid Science Engineer, or related position.
JOB SITE: Columbus, Indiana
WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation and Benefits
Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
