Responsibilities You will develop plans and procedures to extend existing knowledge and tests to account for newly emerging ideas and concepts. You will provide expert advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, peers, and sponsors on specific technical aspects of systems or concept development. You will use scientific analysis and research to develop ideas to make predictions and explain behavior and design experiments to test those ideas. You will develop or test new equipment/materials/concepts that significantly add to the operability and usefulness of what exists or develops new equipment/systems having new features. You will apply principles, methods, and procedures to integrate and optimize systems and their components. You will apply principles, methods, and tools for developing and analyzing test and evaluation procedures, and technical characteristics of systems, including identifying critical operational issues. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education Basic Requirements: Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. or Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either 1 or 2 above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. Substitution of Education for the ND-2: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement Substitution of Education for the ND-3: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This announcement uses the STRL Direct Hire Authority for Scientists and Engineers with Advanced Degrees, STRL Veterans Candidates, and DoD Temporary Direct Hire Authority for Certain Competitive Service Positions. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. Recruitment incentives may be authorized to eligible new hires. Several vacancies may be filled. This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
