About this Location

The Indiana Production Facility (IPF) is Acuity Brands’ largest manufacturing site in the USA. The facility is located about 45 minutes west of Indianapolis in the small town of Crawfordsville, Indiana, in the middle of Montgomery County. Love the outdoors as much as we do? Then you’ll enjoy the surrounding parks including Turkey Run and Shades State Parks, or renting canoes at Clements Canoes Outdoor Center. These scenic locations are perfect for boating, fishing, hiking, camping and picnicking. How you will contribute:

We're seeking talented and enthusiastic Material Scientist Technician with experience in inspection and failure analysis for electronic devices and printed circuit assemblies. This person will be responsible for forinsic analysis, lab control, quality metrics, assets and resources, construction of prototype circuits/controls, validating manufacturability of electronics products, and provides feedback to Engineering and PCB designers regarding issues found, and conducts Laboratory Analysis and testing for electronic designs. Additonal responsibilities include materials characterization, mechanical and metallographic tests, stress and strain analysis, root cause and solving problems analysis, improvement projects, process development, production support, and providing technical training. This position will be based at our largest US manufacturing site in Crawfordsville, IN. Job Responsibilities

  • Perform Laboratory analysis for x-sectioning electronic parts and components, analysis of force required to detach a component for a printed circuit board to accomplish specifications.

  • Inspect new components and assemblies to validate manufacturability.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies in clean, reliable condition.

  • Minimize cost of laboratory operations by being proactive in suggesting new, innovative means to achieve a specific company goal.

  • Perform engineering design validations for manufacturing and report results to the project team.

  • Attend training sessions, meetings, technical presentations to remain up-to-date with latest techniques, procedures and/or company policies.

  • Develop of several procedures: visual and x-ray inspection, chemical analysis, mechanical and strain analysis.

  • Reduce systematically the time delivery and lead time for products and processes in FA Lab.

  • Implement control and quality metrics in the area.

  • Prompt customer service responses for laboratory services and establish continual improvement process for the results.

  • Troubleshoot failures/issues from prototype and design validation. Report findings/recommendations to the hardware and Printed Circuit board designer(s).

  • From schematics, assemble prototype circuits and/or controls to prove out design concepts. Working with the electronic designer, conduct testing to verify design.

  • Construct testers/fixtures as required to complete prototype evaluation.

Qualified Applicants will have:

  • Education: Technical or Associates Degree in Electronics or Material Scientist.

  • 2 years plus experience

  • Ability to develop several procedures: visual and x-ray inspection, chemical analysis, mechanical analysis

  • Give support on a daily basis to process, engineering, and quality teams

  • Experience in electronic controls development and knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering principles

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams to construct circuits, controls and testers

  • Ability to understand and use various lab equipment (including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, data acquisition devices, frequency generators and others as needed) required in trouble shooting and testing electronic controls

  • Ability to interpret test data and provide input ot the hardware designer(s) on circuit analysis

  • Good communication skills

  • Proficient n MS Word and Excel
