The Crown Point , IN office has an immediate opening for a Geotechnical Staff Engineer to contribute to the expanding Northwest Indiana service area. The staff engineer will play a key role in helping the office thrive in both public and private pursuits. The Crown Point office serves as a satellite to the Indianapolis operation and is positioned for exceptional growth to match the regional boom in population, commerce, and public sector demand. Located an hour from downtown Chicago, the area offers urban, suburban, and rural opportunities for work, home, and leisure.

A Geotechnical Staff Engineer will provide engineering and consulting services for an array of projects and clients. This may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in the public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and/or industrial sectors.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.

  • Collaborate with senior professionals to develop scopes of service and cost estimates.

  • Conduct and/or coordinate field investigations.

  • Assign laboratory tests.

  • Evaluate laboratory test results and field data.

  • Perform engineering analyses.

  • Work closely with senior-level professionals to prepare and report engineering recommendations.

The successful candidate :

  • Has effectively demonstrated the ability to adapt and perform tasks on multiple proposal and project efforts concurrently.

  • Has a strong understanding of fundamental soil mechanics and experience with geotechnically-related construction practices.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to apply sound engineering principles in practice.

  • Has effectively shown to communicate and collaborate with professional, technical, and administrative team members.

  • Is capable of communicating engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project team members.

  • Has exhibited initiative for, engagement in, and ownership of assigned tasks.

  • Has a desire to grow professionally, both technically and managerially.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience.

  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) required and desire/ability to obtain a registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certification:

Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
