Polaris Industries Hurricane Boats Plt 2 Quality Team Leader in Elkhart, Indiana

The Quality Team Lead position is responsible for supervising a team of inspectors, ensuring that the inspection of all boats, both the inside and outside of the boat for any electrical, functional, or fit and finish defects, to ensure they meet the quality standards of Highwater Marine. The Quality Team Lead is required to document defects, assure defects are being fixed, and sign off on every boat that is released to the dealer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

§ Has successfully completed the online leadership training program.

§ Has completed the "I Decide" quality training.

§ Must be able to coach and discipline employees using the Coaching for Commitment (CFC) system.

§ Direct responsibility for (1) work area, that translates to approximately (5) -- (14) employees.

§ Begins managing the cross-training matrix for the work zone.

§ Has demonstrated the ability to understand and follow the requirements, policies, and guidelines set forth within the Code of Conduct & Employee Handbook expectations. The expectation is no write-ups and achieving at least 100% of the monthly attendance bonus on a regular basis and occasionally achieving quarterly perfect attendance bonus.

§ Has demonstrated the ability to comply with the Company's Safety and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) guidelines.

§ Has demonstrated the ability to interview and select "good fit" employees as part of future recruiting of production employees.

§ Begins to demonstrate the ability to identify issues or potential issues within a team.

§ Must have the ability to lead team members, which includes being able to work with other Team Leads, Group Leaders, Supervisors and Engineers to achieve daily work targets.

· Has demonstrated the ability to understand importance of following work instructions to compete the daily work targets with zero defects for at least the jobs in their respective work zone or work area of focus. Must have the ability to escalate changes to standard work and retrain on areas needed.

§ Must be able to hold quality meetings and update the Quality KPI board.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to communicate professionally and escalate quality discrepancies through the proper channels.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to operate testing equipment to ensure all functional parts are working and in good quality.

  • Must be able to perform spot inspections and audits on all process in the production lines.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to lead the escalation process, strong enough to stop non-compliant product, and aid in solving the problem upline. Must know how to perform a Quality Blitz Gemba

  • Has demonstrated the ability to lead the No Fault Forward Stop Gate procedure in production and communicate professionally with peers of the discrepancies.

  • Must be able to lead production line moves (Takt) and maintain the HR/HR performance boards. Must be able escalate Quality Gemba's from the data.

  • Be articulate and technical enough to convey a standard and why something is acceptable or not while staying calm and professional. Demonstrates the ability to make quick rational decisions with clear explanation of the reason.

  • Be mature enough to manage their own "opinions" vs the compliance standards set forth by Quality.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Must have 5+ years of Quality or Supervisory experience.

  • Must be able to participate and lead continuous improvement activities. (i.e. Kaizen, 5S, 8D's)

  • Must have a performance history of quality conscious work, good attendance, and safe work habits.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to professionally communicate thoughts and ideas to co-workers and management.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to Communicate honestly, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills. Communication with Team Leads, Group Leaders, Supervisors, and Plant Managers will be a must.

· Has demonstrated the ability to quickly adapt to changes in responsibility (work duties) processes, procedures, or work schedules.

  • Has demonstrated the ability problem solve, correct and retrain quality discrepancies.

· Has demonstrated the ability to train, coach, can be put anywhere on the Quality team as a utility player to work with a team to problem solve and find root cause analysis.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to multi-task and willingness to be flexible with time and schedule.

  • Must have working knowledge of PC programs (Word, Excel, and email) including the ability to enter and retrieve data. Must be able to present the data to team members in KPI meetings or Gemba meetings.

  • Must be able to perform all the Quality Inspection roles and train peers on the positions.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to work indoors, in tight spaces, and without air conditioning

  • Exposure to noise, dust, fiberglass, and cleaning chemicals

· Has demonstrated the ability to continuously stand, walk, reach while frequently crouching, bending, & climbing throughout the workday. Will need to use ladders to climb in and out of boats.

PPE Required

· Safety Glasses within production areas

· Steel toe shoes withing production areas

· Gloves required when in production areas performing work on a boat
