The primary role of the Demand Planner is to develop a demand forecast and inventory targets. This position is critical to managing the demand signals that directly impact the supply plan and projected inventory levels. The demand planner is tasked with using data insights to improve forecast accuracy, along with calculating appropriate inventory targets with respect to forecast accuracy. This person is a hands-on analyst who will drive the creation of a statistical forecast, and then works with other teams (sales, operations, finance) to develop a consensus demand plan.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Generate statistical forecast and manage exceptions by utilizing demand-planning exception reports to identify and fix potential issues.

  • Collect past/future demand factors (e.g., market growth, market share, new/discontinued products and promotion plans) from operations and sales to forecast/model their impacts on demand.

  • Use and maintain current demand-planning systems to create the best statistical forecast possible using established processes.

  • Develop, monitor and communicate reports on forecast accuracy to business unit and supply chain organizations, while driving continuous improvement.

  • Measure, analyze and report key process metrics and monitor adherence to key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Monitor master data to maintain accurate product and customer details.

  • Assist the Director of Supply Chain Planning in other tasks and projects related to enhancing planning processes.


  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills. Background in statistics and economics preferred.

  • Data gathering and quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including business process metrics and measures linking to business KPIs.

  • Ability to clearly communicate results of analysis verbally and in written form.

  • Builds excellent relationships with key internal and external stakeholders based on trust and confidence.

  • Ability to support end-users in a variety of software systems (multiple ERPs and Supply Chain Planning software).

  • Ability to translate business goals and metrics into business process outcomes and related business cases for specific projects.

  • Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Prior experience in demand and supply planning.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role does not have any supervisory responsibility upon hiring.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position can be very active, sometimes requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee may have to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time salary position, and hours/days of work are decided by production schedules and your reporting manager.


Travel will be moderate and would be primarily local during the business day.

Required Education and Experience

  • Degree in mathematics or statistics is preferred. Other degrees in engineering/operations research, supply chain management (SCM) or business administration are also accepted.

  • Candidate should have previous experience in supply chain planning, process design, business strategy and/or financial planning.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • APICS Certifications (CSCP, CPIM) or IBF Demand Planning, Forecasting and S&OP Certification preferred

  • Proven ability to communicate with people at all levels, ranging from factory schedulers to high-level executives, both written and verbal, to technical and nontechnical audiences

  • Moderate understanding of strategic business goals and objectives

  • Moderate understanding of demand and supply planning

  • Moderate understanding of financial planning

  • Experience in process definition and implementation, as well as in change management

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, as well as strong skills as a negotiator to reach consensus, buy-in and commitment

  • Deep understanding of technology enablement and current technology tools
