General Position Summary
The Senior Packaging Engineer will lead / support the delivery of packaging facility and equipment design projects from various industries. The Senior Packaging Engineer will be responsible for to lead / support the packaging equipment effort on pursuits and projects. This role involves client interactions, fee estimating, packaging equipment concept design work, specification development and coordination, construction estimating, leading other designers on projects, quality and coordination reviews, and coordination with other engineering disciplines on projects. The Senior Packaging Engineer must be able to meet critical deadlines and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. This role will also involve mentoring the development of junior engineers and designers.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
Work as a lead on project teams over other technical staff, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated and that the quality assurance measures have been followed
Evaluate competitive products, packaging solutions, and prepare samples
Assist in finished product packaging design and development that is mutually beneficial to the customer and packaging production.
Assist as a technical liaison between customer, suppliers and packaging production for component questions and issues.
Act as Site Expert of primary and secondary packaging equipment and related technologies (eg. controls system, vision inspection, serialization etc.)
Work with internal personnel and external vendors to implement complex packaging equipment and upgrades.
Work with customers to improve current primary and secondary packaging to gain production efficiency and cost reductions.
Work with customers to identify and support the continuous improvement and standardization opportunities for cost reduction.
Troubleshoot and problem solve for existing customer owned packaging equipment.
General knowledge to operate and maintain all packaging equipment
Work cross-functionally between all teams, and assisting with international and domestic solutions
Develop and refine packaging equipment design methodologies, tools, and standards
Stay abreast of relevant industry developments and technology advancements
Ensure development of consistent and high-quality project deliverables
Ensure that our packaging and facility designs conform to the applicable code requirements
Listen to our clients’ needs and independently provide value to our clients by evaluating options based upon the client’s needs and desires, first cost, and life cycle costs
Communicate your design recommendations to our clients, project team, construction contractors and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary
Provide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirements
Maintain appropriate contact with our existing clients so that they think of our firm when services are needed
Work across PCI Skanska groups as well as Midwest construction to pursue project opportunities
Mentor team members to develop additional strengths and competencies within the group
Will be an ambassador of the firm to the public

Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Bluebeam
Ability to read and understand drawings and technical specifications
Proficient in field investigations and measurements.
Strong at 2D drawing creation and technical review for communication of a design in construction documents.
Working knowledge of Industry Standards
Interprets and ensures conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures
Works closely with Engineers and other disciplines to ensure coordinated design systems
Ability to work with point clouds as part of the design process is desired for this position
Experience executing multi discipline designs in an integrated approach
Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills, and is sensitive to the need to change their personal behavior quickly when needed to effectively communicate and coordinate with others
Good attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies
Strong problem solving skills

+10 years of applicable industry experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging, Material Science, Construction or Engineering disciplines
High-speed liquid bottling and powder canning experience are especially desired
Pharmaceutical bottle and blister experience are especially desired
Work Environment/Job Conditions
This job is performed both in the office and in the field. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment, systems and conditions is required. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to tool and computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
