Job Summary

We are seeking a candidate with 5+ years’ experience in product design along with component cost analysis experience that will work closely with the design engineers to provide costs on new product design or design change proposals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to achieve desired cost objectives and provide cost alternatives.

  • Perform DFA/DFM analysis to identify potential cost reductions and recommend changes.

  • Develop and maintain an expert level of knowledge related to product fabrication capabilities with in house tools and the potential implementation of automation tools and equipment to drive cost out of our designs and processes.

  • Lead engineering continuous improvement initiatives

  • Provide Engineering/Manufacturing with Project/Product cost data as requested.

  • Analyze options and determine best cost reduction opportunities.

  • Provide project teams with cost tracking to established target cost throughout the product development cycle.

  • Create preliminary concept models with 2D & 3D representations utilizing Solidworks and other 3D modeling tools.


  • Basic understanding of cost estimates and estimating of aluminum structures, plastic roto molded, blow molded & vacuumed formed plastic parts, electrical systems, marine carpet & vinyl materials, and individual components preferred.

  • Knowledge of Cost Accounting concepts and techniques are required as well as a fundamental understanding of basic financial management techniques.

  • The individual would be strong in data acquisition and able to influence with the use of data.

  • Must have good written and verbal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of management.

  • Strong accurate analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Individual must be self-motivated and capable of working in a team or individual non-supervised environment.

  • Basic knowledge of the products produced as well as design and manufacturing processes.

  • Must have a working knowledge of a Bill of Material, its development and application.

  • Ability to independently analyze risk, make recommendations to the appropriate authority and when solicited make decisions.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Proficient working with Solidworks and/or other solid modeling CAD systems

  • Utilization of DFMA tools and software a preferred requirement.

  • Experience/knowledge of aPriori or similar component cost analysis tools.

Education Requirements – Preferred Bachelor’s degree with and emphasis in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

Physical Requirements – Working conditions are normal for an office environment.

Travel Requirements – 0% - 20%
