Job Summary

The Engineering Manager is a key member of the local leadership team and reports directly to the Director of Engineering for Product Development. The Engineering Manager provides general management over design/validation engineering and continuous improvement in order to support the operational and business objectives. This position is responsible to lead and direct the work of others in an environment which promotes teamwork and continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for engineering and continuous improvement

  • As a member of the Fort Wayne Operations leadership team; contribute to the development of business plans and targets, and to the overall strategic direction of the Business

  • To provide hands on leadership and management to ensure high quality, accurate, and timely engineering services and documents

  • Oversee engineering processes and procedures, project management, and cost control methods for the business using gated processes to ensure optimization and compliance with established engineering standards and regulations

  • Monitoring performance against business targets; acting to ensure that project schedules and budgets are met

  • Build a high performing team culture that recognizes and rewards excellence and encourages individuals to strive for performance improvement within the business and their respective functional groups

  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring of the engineers to reach their full potential and to drive a culture of accountability

  • Partner with all functional areas to positively impact culture and drive operational excellence

Expected Areas of Competence

  • Strong background in product development, both design and validation as well as lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement. Experience in developing design standards and procedures.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and resources and engage others by developing trust both inside and out of the organization.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required. Ability to convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals and groups. Must be able to interact with a diverse group of people to create an environment that is equitable, inclusive, and cooperative.

  • Ability to make time bounded decisions characterized by logic and reasoning while keeping the organization’s vision and values at the forefront.

  • Creative thinker with solid analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to facilitate and lead using innovative approaches, addressing of problems and opportunities, and implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace.

Education Requirements – Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing; Master’s degree preferred.

Physical Requirements – Working conditions are normal for an office environment.

Travel Requirements – 0% - 20%
