Job Description:

Materials and Processes engineer responsible for the evaluation, selection, testing and analysis of metallic, non-metallic, polymer and composite materials used in Aerospace and Defense programs.

Responsibilities include interfacing with internal and external customers to assist in the selection, evaluation, and application of numerous materials and processes relevant to the technical activities of L3Harris

  • A portion of the work is hands-on in a lab environment involving failure analysis and process development

  • Develop and perform destructive and non-destructive techniques which include material property testing, failure analysis, and other lab analytical methods common to material failure analysis and testing laboratories

    Essential Functions:

  • Leading material review board activities and failure analysis reviews.

  • Participating in material and process control board activities.

  • Working with internal customer teams to determine material design constraints.

  • Generating reports of completed work for dissemination to program/design teams, management and L3Harris customers.

  • Works in lab environment geared toward component failure analysis, materials characterization and process development.

  • Participates in team environment and maintains good communication skills.

  • Multi tasks on multiple projects.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with a Materials Engineering Minor or equivalent with 6 years experience or Master's and 4 years experience.

  • Prior experience in a laboratory environment .

  • Prior Experience in MS Office Suite and in technical writing including generating written procedures and analytical reports.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of aerospace industry specifications

  • Knowledge of electronic component construction

  • Knowledge of materials compatibility and corrosion evaluation

  • Knowledge of plating and metal finishing

  • Knowledge of optical coating processes

  • Knowledge of electronics soldering and assembly processes

  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques
