Refresco Process Improvement Engineer in Greendale, Indiana

Description

Essential Functions:

  • Successfully develops & executes multiple capital projects supporting new products and processes, operating efficiency improvements and responsible facility management at any of Refresco’s US facilities.

  • Scopes, specifies, and designs processing, batching, blending, thermal processing, refrigeration, bottling, CIP/COP/sanitation, and utility (air, water, steam) systems, evaluates alternatives, selects & sizes equipment, develops estimates, and ensures regulatory compliance. Scopes, specifies, and designs piping and instrumentation systems for the above.

  • Develops process flow, piping and equipment layout drawings, construction packages, manages construction, controls schedule and cost within project timeline and budget, and provides clear and concise analysis and reporting.

  • Develops, and revises as necessary, corporate process equipment and piping/ instrumentation specifications.

  • Initiates appropriation requests, purchase orders, and contracts as required.

  • Ensures that all designs and activities comply with all applicable codes, regulations and standards and maintains company drawings and technical records.

  • Works with Product Development to ensure best fit between existing processes and new products; provides leadership in scaling up products for commercial production.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve plant performance, product quality and employee welfare, provides leadership in developing and implementing practical solutions, and participates in long-range capital planning.

  • Provides technical support for the operation, maintenance and improvement of processing equipment, production lines, utilities, and buildings.

  • Works in a team environment to support company objectives, initiatives and policies.

  • Responsibilities may also include unexpected job duties as required by business needs. You will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

  • To collaboratively work with the site operations functions at Refresco sites to set up and steer improvement teams across the site by creating process improvement teams (PIT’s) prioritized on business risk and opportunity.

  • Design, deliver and maintain a process to map and understand all of the key influencing variables that impact on the efficient manufacturing of soft drinks by developing, utilizing and applying the relevant CI tools and models such as DMAIC (Define, measure, analyze, improve and control).

  • Accurately evaluate how a production line/ process can run at an optimum performance level in turn reducing waste and improving quality which will contribute to achieving the organizations Strategic Pillars

  • Investigate areas of inefficiency/ below expected performance to develop and maintain correct actions plans with realistic timescales and utilize the DMAIC problem-solving tool to facilitate and align this process.

  • Facilitate the process of performance improvements whilst safeguarding assets. This requires all opportunities to be quantified and that all results are controlled within the allotted budgets and assigned targets.

  • Ensure effective and competent processes are available to define and establish specifications, SOP’s and standards in line with process improvements to ensure adherence and sustainability.

  • Review KPI’s to ensure continuous improvement is applied across all areas of customer base and aligned to site KPI’s and priorities.

  • Ensure compliance to all Company Health and Safety standards at all times, always working in a health and safety conscious manner and aware of any issues that may arise from your own actions.

  • Participate actively in daily, weekly & monthly operations meetings to identify and highlight issues that drive the continuous improvement ethic.

  • Administer and provide professional advice on procedural, process and policy changes and their implementation ensuring training, tools and techniques are delivered to enable others to achieve quality standards.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • BS Engineering, preferably Chemical

  • 5 years Process Engineering experience desired

  • Minimum of 3 years in Food Processing, including Thermal Processes and/or sanitation

  • Experience in Capital Project Management, Environmental, and Regulatory are plusses

  • Experience in bottling and packaging are pluses

  • Experience with controls systems and process controls are pluses

  • AutoCAD & MS Project skills required

  • Confidentiality a must.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

  • Strong communication skills, must be comfortable interacting with all levels of management in order to meet daily information needs

  • Able to work independently and prioritize among multiple simultaneous assignments with initiative.

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in Engineering, Manufacturing and Management, preferably in food, pharmaceutical or beverage products preferred.

  • Bachelor and/or Master’s degree in an Engineering or Engineering and Management strongly preferred

  • Physical Demands– Continuously sitting for prolonged periods, as the job is administrative in nature.

  • Visual/Sensory – This position requires attention to detail, requiring attention with one or two senses at a time.

  • Work environment – Work and environment fasted paced, requiring ability to remain focused under pressure.

  • Mental Stress – There is pronounced pressure from deadlines, project management, accuracy or similar demands.
