Covance is a global contract research organization with a specialist regulatory consultancy division focused on supporting the Crop Protection, Biocides and Chemical industries.

As part of an expansion of our Crop Protection & Chemicals (CP&C) capabilities, we are establishing a regulatory consultancy team in the US. This will complement the groups in Europe and Asia which have been successfully operating for many years. We would welcome applications from a variety of disciplines, to work as the Business Lead Consultant, to drive the growth of our CP&C businesses in the US.

As a Business Lead Consultant, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide high level regulatory and scientific advice to customers in the areas of Crop Protection, Chemical or Biocides.

  • Act as the senior consultant on large programs, as well as occupying a high-profile position in the industry (through involvement in working groups, presenting at conferences and by developing their already extensive network of regulatory & industry contacts).

  • Support Covance’s commercial function (Sales & Marketing) to secure the growth of the CP&C business (consultancy & testing).

  • Act as a mentor (in regulatory strategy, requirements and process) to colleagues, as well as a high-level reviewer and adviser on large and complex regulatory programs.

  • Advise on new regulatory drivers and strategic directions for the group/company.

Education / Qualifications:

  • BSc or higher, or equivalent industry experience

What we’re looking for in you:

  • A broad & extensive regulatory experience of the development of crop protection and/or chemical substances, supported by a strong technical background (in toxicology, residues, analytical methods, ecotoxicology, environmental fate or metabolism).

  • An extensive network of business & regulatory contacts throughout the CP&C sector (including within the US EPA).

  • Good communication skills with the ability to lead and engage with customers, regulatory authorities or other internal project team members.

  • Work within a quality focused environment with the ability to deliver against agreed timelines, whilst managing workloads and resources to ensure targets are met.



BSc/PhD (relevant experience which may be substituted for level of education)


  • Detailed expertise in chemistry/biology related sciences

  • 15+ years’ experience of Crop Protection or Chemicals Regulatory Affairs

  • Strong network within the Crop Protection and/or Chemicals industries (incl EPA (US Regualtory Authority), companies, consultants & industry associations)

  • Relevant laboratory-based testing experience would also be helpful
