The role of the Emerging Technologies group, is to embed and scale identified emerging technologies that will positively disrupt Eli Lilly to “power our business”. This includes growing our cloud, mobile and social capabilities across Lilly, and includes continuous improvement and innovation-driven processes to accelerate delivery across IT, enabling business transformation. The Emerging Technologies group will be inspired by the enterprise business needs, supporting the required people, process and culture transformations.

This group brings not only the technology, but also reimagines how technology should be consumed, and then drives the development of processes, methodologies and services to accelerate time to business value. This role, by focusing on how our employee’s, partners and customers consume our services is important to ensuring that the IT strategy can be realized, and that our business is ready for the change

This role has five main responsibilities:

  • Lead the effort to position appropriate technical solutions within the enterprise, streamlining our portfolio of modern tools to align with the company’s IT strategy & ecosystem as well as modern industry standards and methodologies.

  • Utilize certifications and industry experience as a Cloud Engineer to improve how services are offered, such as Heroku, AWS, Jenkins, Docker, Github, Salesforce and ServiceNow.

  • Engineer modern IT solutions ranging from developing and leveraging API’s, automating deployments using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins/Travis, as well as building on top of modern cloud offerings including AWS & Heroku.

  • Architect cloud applications using modern architecture principles such as micro-service design.

  • Lead the delivery and development of enhancements and innovations to simplify and improve the user experience for customers that use the enterprise DevOps tools and applications.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience leading an Agile Scrum/Kanban team and acting as a technical lead or Sr. Developer

  • Experience in multiple highly technical disciplines and the ability to demonstrate knowledge across Cloud, Networking, IT Security, Software development & DevOps toolchain

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills with multiple examples of being able to convey complex ideas in a manner that resulted in a conclusive direction and result

  • Strong personal & work organizational skills.

  • Previous experience with Cloud Service Providers such as AWS/Azure/GCP.

  • UNIX / Linux systems administration skills.

  • Scripting experience with either Java/Python/NodeJS.

  • Has proven experience working with Infrastructure as Code, Configuration Management systems, CI/CD pipelines.

  • Effective time management skills

  • Experience with driving execution through a team with real impact and proven outcomes.

  • Possess a “Can Do” attitude, with a view to moving the business forward.

  • Experience in a 24/7 global production environment(s).

  • Demonstrated high level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective, and innovation interest.

  • Understand microservice architecture.

  • Experience as a coach and/or mentor in developing technical resources.

  • Certified AWS Architect, DevOps Engineer or Developer.

  • Driven leader with strong self-management skills and comfortable working with ambiguity.

  • Experience with Serverless compute such as Lambda.

  • Prior experience with Amazon EKS or Google AKS.

  • Experience with driving execution through a team with real impact and solid outcomes.

  • Possess a “Can Do” attitude, with a view to moving the business forward.

  • Self Driven; be able to communicate internally and externally across Lilly IT.

  • Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence and solution delivery.

  • Experience in a 24/7 production environment

  • Experience in tools like: TFS, QC ALM, HPE Loadrunner, GitHub, Slack, JIRA, Chef, Jenkins.

  • Operations (DevOps), monitoring and management tools, and deployment processes and tools

  • Strong self-management and ability to work in ambiguity

  • Experience of rapid development methodologies. (ie Scrum or Kanban)

  • Demonstrated high level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective, and innovation interest
