The Technology Sourcing organization works with stake-holders throughout Salesforce to procure the technology that powers Salesforce. Our role is to ensure the selection process includes all relevant parties and that the selected technology partners provide outstanding products and services at a fair price while aligning with Salesforce’s core values on an ongoing basis.

The Software Sourcing Team is within the overall Technology Sourcing Organization. It works closely with Product Development, Infrastructure and Business Technology teams on the selection, acquisition and oversight of software and associated partnership contracts.

Role Description:

The Director is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies as well as recommending product / process innovations based on improving technology. This Director (along with staff) will negotiate, administer, and manage the full range of commercial software contracts focusing on internal and external IT needs. This Director is also responsible for the overall business-to-business relationships between Salesforce and software suppliers. The Director will oversee staff and supporting functions to ensure that day-to-day interactions with suppliers are consistent as well as ensuring regular business reviews are conducted, along with achieving cost-effective procurement decisions for the company..

Your Impact: Success will be measured by the overall performance of the team in managing suppliers to agreed terms and adding partners where appropriate.

  • Work with Product Development, Infrastructure and Business Technology (IT) teams to determine the best approach to acquiring the best technology.

  • Maintaining and developing supplier and partner relationships, negotiating and maintaining MSAs with partners where appropriate and running performance reviews.

  • Develop strategies and processes to address shifts in software acquisition and marketplaces

  • Managing a portfolio of software agreements and relationships and serving as an escalation point to address business needs.

  • Ensuring commodity managers are skilled in leading the business negotiation process with internal partners and suppliers and driving to own closure of agreements.

  • Ensure results are captured by implementing standard procurement best practices, building strong relationships with internal customers and suppliers, and consulting on procurement best practices for cross-functional project teams.

  • Utilize RFI (Request for Information), RFP (Request for Proposal), and RFQ (Request for Quote) techniques to identify, select, and engage with suppliers to ensure competitive market advantage. Direct and implement supplier-sourcing strategies to ensure high quality and cost competitiveness.

  • Implement proactive procurement philosophies, strategies, policies, procedures, and systems.

  • Influence cross-functional organizations while enhancing strong internal relationships in order to meet business requirements and cost objectives.

Basic Requirements:

  • BA/BS or equivalent in technical or business related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience in Software Licensing.

  • Business and technical knowledge of software licensing, transaction efficiencies and evolving marketplaces.

  • Experience negotiating with enterprise software suppliers (i.e. Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, IBM, etc...).

  • Experience in sourcing processes (i.e., RFx development and execution) and reviewing, analyzing, drafting and negotiating contract terms with respect to major projects of medium/high complexity.

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to analyze and explain pricing models and contract terms.

  • Strong understanding of legal concepts as related to contract negotiations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent relationship management skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with suppliers, and internal business customers, and senior management.

  • Work well under pressure, ability to multitask and skilled time manager that is comfortable working under minimal supervision.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working in the technology sector.

  • Prior successful people management experience.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities while managing high-volume of activity.
