Terracon Engineering Technician I (Materials Only) in Indianapolis, Indiana
Perform laboratory testing of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with supervisor, project manager, engineering technicians, client representative, contractor’s representative, and others as applicable regarding the required test methods, project requirements, and test requirements and results. Receive samples from field technicians, contractors, and internal clients for testing. Log samples in accordance with Terracon’s CMELMS lab testing software and review associated identifying documentation for testing and analysis. Perform requested testing in accordance with the applicable test methods (ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, etc.). Tabulate, prepare, and submit test data in the form of written and digital reports in Terracon’s CMELMS reporting system as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager. Maintain, calibrate and clean equipment as required in accordance with Terracon’s Quality Management System and maintain a safe and clean work area. May assist with Laboratory Coordinator responsibilities as needed, must be flexible to work in all areas of the laboratory, must be willing to learn new test methods for continued growth and periodically increasing responsibilities. Must adhere to strict Terracon laboratory safety standards and protocols.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Under close supervision of higher-level technicians, staff professionals, and Laboratory Coordinator; learn and assist with tasks and perform basic laboratory testing duties.
Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
Communicates information to Laboratory Coordinator and discusses accuracy of data, in preparation for submittal.
Submits documentation and communicates results as directed by the Laboratory Coordinator.
Maintains and calibrates assigned equipment.
Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for the laboratory and office working environment. Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects and be able to follow assigned test methods for successful completion of assigned testing.
High school diploma or equivalent.
6 months of previous experience working in a Geotechnical Materials Testing Laboratory setting preferred.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Obtain ACI Compressive Strength and Aggregate Technician certifications within 90 days of hire.
Successful completion of related internal test method and safety certifications.
- Current ACI, NICET, or other materials testing certifications preferred.
