Hydrogeologist (direct hire)

Overview: Kelly Services® is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our client’s team as a Hydrogeologist. This is a direct hire position based in Indianapolis, IN with a leader in providing environmental services to a wide variety of clients.

The Project Hydrogeologist is responsible for providing geologic interpretation and hydrogeological analysis to support projects. Work is performed in collaboration with the closure service area under the general supervision of the Senior Geologist and the Principal of Technical Services. The closure service area includes, but is not limited to, addressing chemical contamination during the closure process in regulatory programs and property transactions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform groundwater flow and containment transport modeling

  • Provide quantitative aquifer evaluation from field data

  • Act as a technical resource to teams performing groundwater investigation and remedial design

  • Write technical reports summarizing field activities, geologic, and hydrogeologic interpretations, and conclusions based on findings

  • Review and edit written reports generated by others

  • Prepare and review geologic Cross-sections

  • Prepare and review potentiometric surface maps

  • Perform regional geologic research, evaluation, and presentation

  • Oversee geophysical evaluations

  • Provide guidance for quantitative aquifer testing projects

  • Establish processes and manage information from the field

  • Be a technical resource for geologic evaluations (soil, water, and vapor)

  • Assist with closure project planning

  • Provide internal training of hydrogeology-related items

  • Coordinate with drilling service providers to ensure the appropriate drilling methods are used during geologic investigations

  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for collection and analysis of hydrogeologic data

  • Provide timely response to budget requests

Required Experience, Education & Certifications:

  • Requires five or more years of professional experience in the area of hydrogeologic and geologic data collection and interpretation

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Hydrogeology or a related field

  • Existing certification as or eligibility to become a Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG) in Indiana.

Knowledge of:

  • Common modeling software, including MODFLOW and MT3D

  • Hydrogeologic data collection methods

  • Soil classification

  • Interpretation of hydrogeologic data

  • Groundwater flow

  • Contaminant fate and transport

  • Environmental statistics

  • Vapor migration

  • Regulatory compliance, guidance and related requirements.

  • Hazards inherent to environmental work and related safety measures.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Skill in:

  • Designing and implementing groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling projects

  • Researching regulatory issues

  • Performing mathematical calculations

  • Spreadsheet software and computer use

  • Understanding and applying environmental regulations and guidance

  • Organizing and administering multiple projects with various managers/clients

  • Making technical presentations

  • Recognizing potential project opportunities

  • Client and regulatory interaction technical support

Ability to:

  • Understand complex technical environmental data, geology, hydrogeology and regulatory requirements

  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others

  • Assist with establishing project budgets and complete project tasks under budget

  • Maintain strong working relationship with Closure managers

Additional Requirements:

  • This classification requires the use of a personal or company vehicle on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record.

  • The person holding this classification needs to have excellent written communication skills, especially in the area of technical report writing, and the ability to effectively review and edit documents written by others.
