Job Description Summary

Under limited supervision, plans and executes at a strategic level. Leads and influences resources and outcomes. Leads the design, development, and implementation of highly complex project(s) that support a business or technology area or across multiple line(s) of business. Establishes best practices and sets standards. This job is a team lead.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recognized as a technology leader in effort to utilize technology to develop and/or redesign the company's processes.

  • Makes key contributions to the creation and implementation of strategic technology plans and programs.

  • Responsible for managing multiple information systems and systems projects of major business unit and/or enterprise significance.

  • Leads efforts to utilize technology to develop and redesign organizational processes.

  • Builds, maintains, and utilizes high-level partnerships across the enterprise ensuring the best use of resources.

  • Provides technical leadership, fosters a team environment, and provides mentorship and feedback to technical resources.

  • Applies knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned projects.

  • Ensures team's work complies with Travelers standards, processes, and protocols.

  • Applies industry best practices to Travelers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience, and five years of programming/development experience.

  • 1 year of experience as a technical lead required.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • 9 years of programming/development experience preferred.

  • 2 years of experience as a technical lead preferred.

Licensing or Certificates

  • Depends on the specific role but some examples may include:

  • ITIL

  • AWS certification preferred

  • Salesforce certification preferred

  • Java certification

  • Microsoft certification.net

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Knowledge:

  • Able to perform as a lead technologist and masterfully assess and design applications, systems solutions, and interfaces for multiple systems according to business requirements.

  • Has a broad, conceptual understanding of the business and technology architecture trends and directions coupled with demonstrated technical mastery for technologies, frameworks, and/or languages and has the ability to influence and/or set technical direction. Demonstrates proficiency in business concepts.

  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of applications/systems and concepts.

  • Able to evaluate and leverage pre-existing services and frameworks.

  • AWS Cloud Architecture, Teradata, Microservices and Event-Driven Architectures

  • Python, Pyspark, Java, Spring Boot, WebSphere MQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka

  • Relational database management systems, SQL Server, SQL databases, SQL stored procedures and data marts

  • Experience with Salesforce architecture preferred

  • Communication Skills:

  • Ability to communicate thoughts/designs/ideas in an unambiguous manner and adjusts communication based on audience.

  • Exhibits active and effective communication skills with team members - including active listening and effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effectively contributes and communicates with the immediate team.

  • Able to present complex technical concepts to audiences of varying size and level including senior leadership.

  • Able to develop and leverage business and/or vendor partnerships, consult on business priorities, and contribute to strategic business direction.

  • Demonstrates ability to optimize value by identifying solutions that are aligned with current and future business objectives.

  • Able to effectively communicate with all levels of management in business terms and describe IT capabilities and concepts in ways that the business can understand.

  • Develops business partnerships and contributes to strategic business planning by educating and influencing customers on the most effective use of technology.

  • Influences business priorities and optimizes value through solution identification aligned with business objectives, goals and future technology direction.

  • Communicates in business terms, and describes IT capabilities and concepts in ways that the business can understand. Is a trusted advisor on technology business solutions.

  • Problem Solving & Decision Making:

  • Able to expertly diagnose root causes and solve complex problems.

  • Able to collaborate with the business to influence best practices.

  • Able to think broadly and strategically to identify and remove potential barriers to success and anticipate future challenges.
