Position Purpose

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, responsible for evaluation of new deals impacting the Research & Development (R&D) space including, but not limited to, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Safety, Global Medical, Outcomes Research, and Clinical Research as well as alliance management for existing partnerships within the R&D space.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The Director leads the team of subject matter experts from across the R&D organization responsible for evaluation of new Business Development (BD) partnerships and is the R&D point person for alliance management of existing partnerships.

  • Manage the strategy, negotiation, and provisions of the R&D (inclusive of Clinical, Regulatory, Medical, and Outcomes Research) components of the Master Commercial Agreements with external partners involving but not limited to product acquisitions, collaborations, distribution, co-marketing, co-promotion, joint ventures, and divestitures.

  • End to End responsibility for R&D implementation and maintenance for all business development partnerships. Serve as the conduit for ongoing alliance management issues between the R&D functions and the partner.

  • Develop new ancillary agreements for complex deals that expand on development-related details not fully articulated within the master commercial agreement. Maintain existing ancillary agreements that require updating as the partner relationship evolves over time.

  • Represent our company in negotiations with external partners and lead the agreement activities that have R&D organizational impact. Negotiates, on behalf of the individual functions, the right strategy with the partner to ensure global compliance for the company. This includes influence on the external parties as well as internal to company-the executive level management, across divisions, and across countries.

  • Interact closely with Legal, Business Development, and Alliance Management through the execution of strong processes for managing deals in the pre-execution space including due diligence, resource analysis, contractual provisions by deal type, and communications. Fully accountable for relationship management with all business development groups to ensure that all business development deals in ideation are shared with R&D-both through ongoing dialogue and continuing change management as required.

  • Upon execution of all (BD) deals, ensure that deals are implemented within all R&D functional areas.

  • The incumbent must be knowledgeable of global regulatory requirements, clinical development practices, and required medical support at a general level and must be able to work with all levels of management within and outside of R&D.

Qualification, Skills & Experience

  • BS Degree preferably in Technical discipline (science, engineering) or Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, Pharmacy) or related discipline, advanced degree preferred.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years in the pharmaceutical industry with a minimum of (5) years in the Regulatory, Medical, or Clinical arena.

  • Knowledge of the end to end drug/device/biologic development process.

  • Experience with Business Development and/or development strategy and process for Licensing deals preferred.

  • Ability to collaborate with multiple teams and effectively operate in a rapidly changing environment while being quality and compliance oriented.

  • Must have proven track record to be able to think critically, strategically, independently and problem solve

  • Must have high level of motivation, drive, and demonstration of company leadership values

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to write clearly and concisely

  • Top notch interpersonal skills in difficult situations

  • Driver of change and innovation

  • Ability to work seamlessly with all levels of personnel

  • Demonstrated sensitivity and knowledge of cultural differences with experience in multi-country, multi-cultural environments and demonstrated success with cross-geographically based cultural collaborations
