What You Will Do

Ascension Medical Group St. Vincent is seeking a full-time general thoracic surgeon to join our team. Ascension Medical Group St. Vincent has one of the busiest and most well-respected thoracic surgery practices in the Midwest. Our two current surgeons specialize in minimally invasive procedures for patients with benign and malignant disorders of the chest, including a robust robotics practice. They are supported by 4 APPs and an office-based RN, as well as an oncology navigator. There is a well-established referral base with multiple system affiliated medical and radiation oncology practices, employed pulmonology and gastroenterology practices, and a large primary care presence throughout central Indiana. Our surgeons are based primarily out of Ascension St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis, a very busy tertiary care referral center that serves as the hub of the statewide Ascension St. Vincent System. The hospital is a Level 1 trauma center and has multiple graduate medical education programs, including a general surgery residency. Some travel to satellite offices will be required. This position is open to experienced surgeons as well as recent or upcoming graduates.

Practice highlights:

  • Block time in 1-2 rooms daily in our dedicated Cardiothoracic OR Suite (7 rooms, staffed and scheduled separately from Main ORs)

  • Specialty cardiothoracic anesthesiologists staff all cases

  • Robust multidisciplinary Thoracic Malignancy Conference

  • 2-3 surgery days/week, 1-2 clinic days/week

  • Call schedule 1 in 3

  • Great potential for clinical research; group has well established track record of peer reviewed publications and presentations at national meetings

Successful candidates:

-must be board certified or board eligible with the ABTS

-must have dedicated subspecialty fellowship training in general thoracic surgery including robotics, VATS, and advanced diagnostic/interventional endoscopy

-must be willing to participate in the training of surgery residents and medical students

-will work collaboratively within the team to care for our patients and their families, assist our referring providers, and further the development our practice, both locally and through outreach as needed

  • Required Credential(s):

  • Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Indiana Medical Licensing Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Preferred Credential(s):

  • Advanced Life Support.


  • Diploma

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
