Title: Plumbing Designer

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Mainly responsible for designing accurate discipline specific drawings from the engineer/senior designers' design. This role requires the ability to design and prepare specifications on medium to large-scale projects.

  • Responsible charge of the preparation of project documents

  • Ability to provide final piping layouts, invert elevation calculations, fixture calculations, details, equipment layouts, structural/architectural/civil coordination, etc.

  • Ability to select final equipment

  • Ability to define system requirements and basis-for-design requirements for design-build work

  • Establish design criteria and take a project from conceptual phase to final construction documents

  • Ability to perform site surveys to accurately document existing conditions

  • Coordinate and communicate with mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural, and civil trades

  • Perform code, ordinance, local amendments, building certification research and review to ensure design meet all applicable codes and safety standards

  • Responsible for preparation and authoring of complete project specifications

  • Ability to perform back-checks and Quality Checks for projects

  • Prepare and review shop drawing submittals from contractors

  • Inspect, review, and prepare site inspection reports

  • Interact with building owners, property management, architects, and members of design and construction team

  • Provide construction cost opinions

  • Develop and maintain CAD/BIM standards and details

  • Assist with training and mentoring of Level I and Technician team members

  • Ability to prepare and monitor work plans and project schedule to verify project budget and ability to lead a medium to large project.

  • Attend and support technical societies

  • Associates or Technical Degree in Building Systems Engineer, Architectural Engineering or related accredited associate’s degree program field preferred

  • CPD – Certified Plumbing Designer and/or GPD – Green Plumbing Design Certificate preferred

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in facility design and construction

  • Ability to design accurate plumbing specific drawings and specifications.

  • Understanding of design for process and fluid flow systems

  • Understanding of design for plumbing systems (cold water, hot water, sanitary, storm, solar, etc.)

  • Understanding of design for heat and energy transfer systems

  • Ability to design and prepare specifications on medium to large scaled projects

  • Ability to provide accurate and clean drawings

  • Advanced knowledge of Plumbing equipment and systems:

  • Domestic/lab water and waste/vent, specialty lab/medical gas and vacuum, natural gas, storm water, soft water, kitchen water/waste, and hot water/recirculation systems and equipment

  • Ability to create riser diagrams, schedules, and piping layouts

  • Ability to communicate with others and mentor staff

  • Understanding of LEED criteria and LEED process

  • Ability to perform Construction Administration duties

  • Understanding of fire suppression hazards and system components
