With an innovative spirit, the Diabetes and Complications therapeutic group at Lilly has an immediate opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to contribute to the discovery of medicines that impact our patients and communities we serve. We are pursuing innovative projects in beta cell biology in an effort to progress diabetes research.

Responsibilities :

We are seeking a results-oriented post-doctoral scientist with strong research and communication skills to join highly visible research projects in the Diabetes and Complications Therapeutic Area. Your work will contribute to the development of novel therapies addressing pancreatic islet dysfunction in type 2 diabetes. In this role, you will:

  • Carry out ambitious and innovative research in the area of the pancreatic β-cell biology.

  • Advance the molecular understanding of mechanisms underlying β-cell failure in type 2 diabetes with a specific focus on regulation of endoplasmic reticulum function and proinsulin trafficking.

  • Develop in vitro/in vivo models to monitor and study proinsulin trafficking under diabetic conditions.

  • Play a key role in the discovery of innovative ways to target pancreatic β-cells through collaborative research programs with Lilly colleagues and academic investigators.

  • Identify important areas of need across preclinical diabetes target discovery and champion creative solutions to address those needs.

  • Maintain external awareness and contacts to support our goals.

  • Present findings at conferences and publish in high quality peer-reviewed journals.

Basic Qualifications :

  • PhD in life science related field

Additional Skills/Preferences :

  • Hardworking and self-motivated individual with good collaborative skills

  • Scientific background in the pancreatic islet and β-cell biology

  • Possess variety of strong laboratory skills in cell and molecular biology

  • Proven track record of scientific accomplishments as evidenced by publications in internationally recognized per-reviewed journals

This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend annually for up to 4 years.
