Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for a Process Chemist located in Indianapolis, IN. The position is focused on the discovery and development of organic synthesis technology for the cost-effective manufacture of novel agricultural crop protection products. The position exists to support a growing pipeline of experimental products under development by the Corteva Agriscience business.
Work will be primarily in a R&D laboratory setting. The candidate must have a solid knowledge of small-molecule, organic synthesis theory and methodology. The individual will support one or more projects of variable project duration. Travel requirements will be minimal with occasional travel to support the research.

Conceive and develop novel synthetic routes to target product molecules.
Define optimal, low-cost reaction conditions for synthetic steps.
Manage and contribute to the synthesis of gram to kilogram quantities of experimental products for the support of other Corteva R&D sub-functions.
Work with discovery pipeline molecules at various stages of development to support supply of intermediates and final targets for use in Field, Formulation, and Toxicology studies.
Conduct and evaluate experiments using appropriate safety guidelines consistent with safety practices.
Lead development of technology strategy with organizational leaders.
Lead projects and programs on multi-functional teams for organization.
Lead development of project intellectual property strategies for projects.
Initiate and promote collaborations with other Corteva R&D groups engaged in process and related research.
Complete identified and agreed upon Project and Team goals.
Effectively communicate with business partners from all regions of the company, from multiple disciplines and multiple business segments.
Mentor all personnel, both experienced and new, on organic chemistry and process development principles to elevate both their capabilities as well as the group capabilities.

Innovation: The objective of the job is to develop new or improved processes. The individual must be able to problem solve by generating novel ideas and by creatively applying existing technology.
Interpersonal Effectiveness: All projects are conducted in a team-based environment. Success is achieved through the effective leveraging of cross-functional resources. The individual must interact well with others and be able to build and sustain effective relationships.
Initiative: The person must be able to work independently to achieve results. Assistance will be provided in defining and prioritizing goals; however, the individual must show initiative in planning and working to meet the defined objectives.
Teamwork: All projects are managed by teams of varying size. Cooperating and contributing to meet team objectives is critical.
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?
Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with >7 years of relevant industry experience.
Strong synthetic chemistry background is required.
Candidates should have general knowledge of broad separation technologies and characterization techniques.
A proven track record of solving complex synthetic challenges is required.
A track record of technical publications, highly effective communication (written & verbal), interpersonal skills, teamwork, and demonstrated leadership is essential for success.
