Danaher Corporation Senior Staff, Business Development and Strategy in Indianapolis, Indiana

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager (or Senior Staff), Business Development and Strategy is responsible for supporting Beckman Coulter Life Science strategy and business development activities. The Senior Manager will partner with cross-functional teams including business units, sales, R&D, legal, IP, operations, etc., as well as Danaher corporate teams, external advisors, industry thought leaders to:

define, build, and evolve the annual strategic plan for the company, and lead ongoing year-round strategy evolution/refresh activities; perform comprehensive target market analysis to build compelling business cases for acquisitions or corporate partnerships; lead other company-wide initiatives, including kaizens, and own the evolution of the company’s process to drive strategy into action;

Major Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the cross-functional teams described above and with the Danaher Strategy Devolvement team, lead significant parts of the company’s annual and ongoing strategic planning activities

  • Aligned with current and future product and business unit strategies, and in partnership with functional teams described above:

  • Maintain, evolve, lead the execution of the company’s monthly process to drive strategy into action

  • Conduct comprehensive new market analysis to understand macro forces, market sizes, competitive dynamics, and customer’s needs

  • Conduct regular analysis and communication of the current competitive landscape including implications to strategic, tactical and development activities

  • Lead, plan, execute qualitative and/or quantitative market research to build robust voice-of-customer to support business cases

  • Partner with business unit and R&D leadership to conduct Problem-to-Portfolio kaizens that result in a comprehensive and well-define technology roadmap

  • Contribute and lead of acquisition (M&A) targets, and develop Initial strategic wants, business cases and acquisition thesis for new candidates

  • Assess market opportunities for new technologies, new partnership opportunities. Build investment cases and financial models for these

Education, Background and Skill Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 9+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 14 years of relevant experience

  • Strong understanding of customer workflows, pain points, and improvement opportunities in the fields of life science or in-vitro diagnostics.

  • Strong understanding of life science or in-vitro diagnostics industries including market and competitive landscapes, growth drivers, industry changes, and differentiation.

  • An ability to network/connect with key opinion leaders and other influencers in the fields of Flow cytometry, life science or in-vitro diagnostics, to understand their workflows and what good looks like for products and service offerings in these industries. Strong network of academic and / or industry relationships preferred

  • Demonstrated business acumen and excellent written and communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills to conduct qualitative/quantitative analysis and financial modelling

  • Ability to lead with influence across multiple levels/functions, develop strong internal and external networks, and work within a matrix structure

Location: Preferred location in Indianapolis, IN but open to other tech hub cities particularly the SF Bay Area or Boston.

Travel: approximately 40% travel is required
