Oracle Sr Principal Data Scientist, JoinOCI in Indianapolis, Indiana

Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse big data sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.

Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Develops and codes software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.

Acknowledged authority within the Corporation. Acts as a leader of large-scale company initiatives. Viewed by peers as a leader and top contributor and by line management as a key business partner. 10 plus years experience. BA/BS degree preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

Data Scientists work across the organization to help shape OCI's business and technical strategies by processing, analyzing and interpreting huge data sets. Using analytical rigor and statistical methods, you mine through data to identify opportunities for OCI and our customers to operate more efficiently, from building forecasts to preventing cloud downtime before it happens. You work with Engineers, Product Managers, Operations and Support teams to influence business decisions based on your findings.

As a member of the OCI DataStore team, you will apply operations research and statistical methods to solve challenges related to customer retention, renewals, service downtime and top drivers for customer issues relating to Oracle Cloud. You will be responsible for identification of training data sets; building, training, evaluating and selecting models; and delivering results to the business. A successful candidate will be a person who enjoys diving deep into data, doing analysis, discovering root causes, and enabling key business decisions that directly impact customers, service availability, revenue and costs.

You are an expert in data science, machine learning and statistics. You will translate business needs into advanced predictive analytics using machine learning models. You will deliver a ML project from start to end, including understanding the business need, aggregating & exploring data, building & validating predictive models, deploying and consuming completed models to deliver measurable business impact to the organization. You will develop code, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, evaluate large datasets, build and deploy models . You are a self-motivated technical leader who can deal with complex problems without supervision.

_Basic Qualifications_

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Economics

  • Good foundation understanding of data mining, machine learning and data sciences

  • 8 years' of experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL, Spark - Scala, Pyspark), scripting languages (e.g. Python, R), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.)

  • Experiences in data modeling, A/B and hypothesis testing, statistical, mathematical and predictive modeling

  • Strong Technical leadership skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and very strong problem resolution skills

  • Ability to work in a fast paced Agile development and rapid deployment in the Cloud/SaaS environment

_Preferred Qualifications_

  • Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment

  • Experience with data visualization and presentation, turning complex analysis into insight

  • Experience collaborating with software development teams, data scientists, business or other technical roles

  • Experiences with cloud technologies/deployments

  • Relevant working experience in an analytical role which involves data extraction, analysis, and communication

  • A natural curiosity and desire to learn
