Technical Writer - Engineering

Job Summary
Successful applicant will prepare, review, revise and maintain technical documents with heavy emphasis on Engineering Product documentation. This position will gather and analyze Engineering Specifications, designs, & technical processes and procedures from various sources to document new or changing product functionality.
Duties
This job description is not totally inclusive of all the job functions required of the Technical Writer. An employee assigned to this role may have additional, job-related duties.
Essential Functions:
Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit technical / operational procedures and manuals
Create user guides, maintenance manuals, and training manuals
Research, develop, and document technical design specifications
Produce electronic documentation in addition to hard copy manuals
Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation
Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style and content
Manage updates and revisions to technical literature
Create ad hoc documentation on an as-needed basis
Perform other tasks and work with Information Services, Customer Service and Engineering departments as directed by supervisor

Systems Used:
Hardware – Laptop/desktop computer, printer, copier, scanner, plotter, fax machine, telephone, cell phone, and calculator
Software – Microsoft Office Suite & Project, ERP System, Smartsheets, other as necessary
Basic Qualifications:
Requires minimum 2-year college degree with a focus in English, Communication, Technical Writing or related field.
Requires 3+ years relevant experience in technical writing with previous Engineering documentation experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Hardware, Software, and/or Engineering related work experience.
Previous experience utilizing Advanced Editorial Tools and/or Photo Imaging Editing Tools.
Preferred Skills :
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of Engineering design and Engineering Products.
Excellent written/verbal English communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts in a simple and straight-forward manner
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently
Can effectively utilize productivity software and presentation software
Can adapt quickly to changing requirements and short schedules
Has excellent research skills
