Lilly Undergrad - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Microbiologist – Intern in Indianapolis, Indiana

Manufacturing Science Overview:

  • Ensure reliability of our manufacturing and utility systems

  • Identify and implement continuous improvements

  • Maintain our facilities and processes in a state of compliance with US and global regulations

The positions are temporary summer internship positions that last for 12 continuous weeks beginning in May or June 2021. Each pharmaceutical manufacturing microbiology intern is assigned a project affording the opportunity to actively contribute to the Technical Services Manufacturing Sciences (TSMS) organization, building a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, and the role microbiologists play in creating solutions for Eli Lilly and Company.

This intern position exposes one to the technology, science, and regulatory requirements for making commercialized life-saving medicine in therapeutic areas including: diabetes, oncology, endocrinology, and animal health. Interns will interact with other engineering, manufacturing, and science professionals, including Lilly senior management. Professional development and social events are held throughout the summer. At the conclusion of the work period, each intern will present their project highlights, findings and general internship accomplishments to science and manufacturing professionals.

Project opportunities are available in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Parenteral Products (injectable)

  • Bulk Processing (small and large molecule)

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Provide a practical real-life solution to a pharmaceutical manufacturing microbiology related technical project.

  • Understand the scientific principles required for manufacturing pharmaceutical substances, including process and facility microbial controls and measures.

  • Be capable of preparing relevant technical documents, such as reports and protocols, using scientific, statistical, and technical writing principles.

  • Understand and utilize Good Manufacturing Practices and regulatory requirements to develop and execute project deliverables.

  • Work within cross-functional teams in a positive fashion to implement project objectives.

  • Work individually and with a supervisor to determine and achieve project goals driving process productivity through the implementation and execution of the project.

  • Document and present project progress and accomplishments.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently attending college and completion of an undergraduate BS in Microbiology by August 2023.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Analysis/problem assessment skills, communication (oral and written) skills, information monitoring skills, quality orientation, and teamwork/interpersonal skills.

  • Previous internship experience within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Positions located in Indianapolis, IN. Lilly will provide subsidized housing.
