Role Summary/Purpose

Wind Commissioning Technicians are responsible for initial startup and operation of GE wind turbines. Acts as part of a team to achieve safe and efficient operation following satisfactory turnover from GE’s designated construction contractor. Perform the initial startup on the turbine. Synchronize turbine to the grid and prepare it for normal operations, work is 80% Electrical, 20% Mechanical. Will be part of a team that performs maintenance, electrical repair and modification to Wind Turbines

Essential Function

  • Understanding of basic AC/DC electrical circuits and ability to T/S and conduct circuit analysis (24VDC, 166VDC, 120, 230, 400, 575, 690VAC)

  • Understanding of PLC Controls

  • Verify electrical connections and schematics

  • Perform commissioning procedures

  • Document all work performed

  • Follow all assigned Environmental, Health and Safety procedures

  • Verify that the work is completed in compliance with customer’s requirements

  • Perform start-up tests

  • Install turbine control software and operating parameters

  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems

  • Repair or replace parts

  • Responsible for immediate report of errors, violations or problems to Fieldcore lead for action.

  • Responsible for performing all tasks assigned by the site management.

  • Comply with all Quality Processes

  • Understanding of Converter Controls

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications /Requirements

  • 5+ year technical degree or equivalent experience with a minimum 4 years experience as a technician.

  • 6 to 8 years of electrical background

  • Possess advanced skills and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization

  • Individual certified to perform commissioning on SCADA and/or Wind Farm Management System (WFMS)

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Desired Characteristics

  • Expert level. Able to demonstrate Project Management Skills and Team Leader Skills. Possess expert skills and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization.

  • Prior experience in construction, installation and/or commissioning

  • Technical knowledge on system commissioning, operations and testing

  • Ability to work in an environment of low and medium voltage (< 600 volts)

  • Proficient with electrical test equipment and reading schematics

  • Knowledge and experience practicing EHS and Quality Procedures

  • Effective Communicator – works well in team environment

  • Experience with recording data and data analysis

  • Able to perform PCAT and FCAT commissioning on a stand-alone basis.

  • Troubleshooting and stand-alone commissioning.

  • Completed the EHS requirements for commissioning and adherence

  • Proficient with electrical test equipment

  • Proficient at reading electrical schematics

  • High level computer skills including understanding of network communications (IP addressing)

  • Proficient at troubleshooting electrical circuits

  • Extended times of travel and work overtime in a moments notice

  • Comprehend and retain provided safety training and be able to follow safety procedures at all times.
