Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Group Leader, this position will be responsible for organizing, assigning and overseeing production in each cell. Supervises the production team to meet production schedules, facilitating the safe and productive manufacture of high-quality products, effectively driving and maintaining standardized work processes. The Team Leader is also responsible for leading continuous improvement activities using lean manufacturing tools, including 5S and waste elimination. The Team Leader is responsible for ensuring that company policies are followed. The Team Leader is also responsible for Team Member assessment and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Environmental Health & Safety Management:

  • Organize and convene safety meetings to carry out safety education, risk assessments, accident investigations & other related safety activities (T1).

  • Coach team members' adherence to safety procedures, including correct use of PPE, daily safety checks and workplace inspections.

  • Identify, coordinate and resolve safety issues and facilitate Behavior-Based Safety observations (T2).

  • Assist in the drafting of Safety & Prevention procedures (T3).

    Quality Management:

  • Ensure team members adhere to standard operating procedures (T1).

  • Analyze the cause of quality issues and formulate suitable action plans, including containment and preventative corrective actions (T2).

  • Assist in improving Poka-Yoke and quality assurance documentation (T3).

    Operations Management:

  • Allocate shift’s team members according to the production plan, training matrix, and skill matrix (T1).

  • Continuously track team performance and resolve any production abnormalities promptly (T1).

  • Effectively communicate with all team members and to the next shift Team Leader any and all issues/concerns resulting from the shift's operations (T1).

  • Provide timely and effective feedback to help team members strengthen specific skills needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem (T1).

  • Escalate issues and/or successes of the cell to the Group Leader as necessary.

  • Support the T1 Team Leaders in drafting the Standard Work Sheet (T2).

  • Resolve problems during the launch period of new products and improve the production process (T3).

    Materials Management:

  • Implement cyclical and monthly audits of the components in assigned production cells (T1).

  • Analyze any inventory discrepancy and put together improvement action plans (T2).

  • Measure and optimize the usage of MRO in production cells (T3).

    Equipment Management:

  • Organize team members to perform daily checks and maintenance on their production equipment, fixtures and gauges (T1).

  • Assist in the improvement of tooling and modification of equipment (T2).

  • Assist in the audit of equipment and tooling for use in new products (T3).

    5S Management:

  • Organize and supervise the team's execution of 5S plans, including housekeeping, making problems visible and standardizing activity for all Team Members (T1).

  • Develop the team's 5S improvement plan (T2).

  • Support the T1 and T2 Team Leaders' 5S planning and development (T3).

    Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement assigned cells’ continuous improvement plan (T1).

  • Lead the implementation of each cell's continuous improvement plan (T2).

  • Initiate, develop, lead and implement continuous improvement plans (T3).

    Employee Development:

  • Provide standard and specialized training for new, transferred, replacement or returning team members and refresh and upgrade team members on job skills (T1).

  • Train and develop multi-skilled Team Members (T2).

  • Train and develop backup T1 talents (T3).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Work experience in the automotive parts industry preferred.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, waste elimination, problem-solving and 5S principles.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Able to read, write, and perform basic math skills (including basic algebra, fractions and geometry).

  • Ability to carry out instructions, provided in written, oral or diagram form.

  • Basic understanding of TPM principles is beneficial. Ability to operate, troubleshoot, make minor adjustments and/or perform preventive maintenance on metal bending, welding, forming, fabrication, and assembly equipment is advantageous.

  • Experience in effective use of quality control gauges/equipment, inventory systems, blueprint interpretation, computer applications, and SPC charting where applicable.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product and process specifications.

  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • High noise levels

  • Varying temperatures (hot to cold)

  • Fumes at welding stations

  • Confined work space

  • Buffing/grinding dust in some areas

  • Wet slippery floors in some areas

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Extensive standing, walking, upper body twisting, arm and hand motion, some foot motion

  • Manual dexterity

  • Manual movement of pipe throughout machining process (15 lbs.)

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs required

  • Good visual acuity

  • Frequent skin exposure to chemical-based fluids such as coolant, drawing compound, lubricating oils, etc.
