Qualifications
The Plant Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) — Safety Specialist position is responsible for managing, implementing and administering standardized EHS processes to ensure safety and health compliance to federal, state, provincial and local regulations as well as Corporate Policies and Procedures. The Safety Specialist is expected to contribute to the achievement of world class status and corporate savings through managing the elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and environmental impacts. This position will specifically focus on improving and safeguarding the health and safety of all employees, ensuring compliance, supporting World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Safety Pillar activities and Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001).
The EHS – Safety Specialist position will report to the Plant EHS Lead and job responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Oversee and implement EHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted
Conduct regular audits of EHS processes and necessary follow up to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership and corporate EHS staff of findings
Analyze injury/illness experience, identify/track injury correlation, determine root causes, determine corrective action and communicate this information to plant leadership and company EHS
Manage new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that EHS design specifications and regulations are included
Ensure ergonomic processes implemented/ integrated in an appropriate manner
Manage routine safety reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval
Coordinate communication of EHS regulatory inspection activity with plant leadership
Lead EHS projects to improve EHS key performance metrics
Manage, in partnership with medical, first aid and lost time cases to help ensure desired outcomes
Lead the implementation and maintenance of the plant’s safety management system to meet OHSAS 18001 and WCM Safety Pillar requirements
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
5 years of Safety, Environmental, Engineering or related experience in a manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of federal, state, provincial and local regulations and requirements
Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite and/or other software
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field
Safety related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH)
Internship in environmental, occupational safety and health or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
Automotive or manufacturing experience
