Caterpillar's Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) designs and manufacturesdiesel, gas and remanufactured engines, ranging from 400 kilowatts to 16 megawatts ofpower, and the key engine systems such as fuel, air, aftertreatment and coolingwhich are used to power oil & gas, electric power, marine, railand Cat machine applications around the world.
LPSD currently hasan opening for an Incremental Product Request Engineering Project Lead position located at our Lafayette, IN facility.As an Engineer and Senior Engineering Project Team Lead, you will lead a team to accelerate development of custom natural gas and diesel engine products. You will manage the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach enterprise team members, and deepen your professional network.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Lead global teams in the design of new products, processes, components, and systems
Supporting customer service and marketing inquiries
Develop and release new iron to meet customer application
Configure bill of materials using existing or new program specific iron
Managing product quality projects / Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) - defining root cause and solution implementation and validation using Six Sigma DMAIC principles Conducting design reviews with a cross functional audience
Working with component support team, validation team, factory operations, application and installation, customer service teams and suppliers as needed to ensure robust product solutions.
Conducting engine test and validation

Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
Acknowledge and raise customers’ and management’s awareness of trade-offs between time, resources and quality.
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering and/or Engineering Technology
5 years' of engineering experience related to Large Gas Engine Performance Development

Large gas and/or diesel troubleshooting skills
Advanced understanding of large gas engine operation
Understanding of Caterpillar engine product configuration
Caterpillar 6 Sigma training
Familiarity with CSA, EU and API standards
Knowledge of SAP
Proficiency working with computers and computer systems.
Software programs used frequently include, but not limited to: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Creo, Team Center, Canape, Canalyzer, DATK, Cat ET
