Job Description

With the goal of enhancing the scope and pace of experimental programs across Notre Dame, the Engineering and Design Core Facility (EDCF) offers extensive experience in the development of custom hardware and equipment. From consultation to detailed design work to rapid prototyping and testing, EDCF facilitates the process of going from concept to construction by providing professional engineering support for researchers wishing to develop cutting-edge technologies. Assistance in the areas of electrical, mechanical, software, and systems engineering is currently available. The EDCF welcomes users from all campus departments, as well as other academic and industrial institutions.

The Electrical Engineer will be an employee of the University of Notre Dame’s Engineering and Design Core Facility (EDCF). The employee will work with professors and fellow engineers to provide appropriate engineering consultation, experimentation, and/or instrumentation prototypes to meet specific performance requirements. The engineer should have experience with electrical design and simulation software and a work history that includes numerous successful electrical designs that have met performance specifications and schedule requirements. As part of the EDCF, the engineer may be involved in projects from a variety of technical fields including but not limited to physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, metrology, and others. Instrumentation development requires an understanding of electronics, software, firmware, optics. An engineer with broad experience across multiple disciplines will be best suited for this position. Strong communication and leadership skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years of experience Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field Strong communication and verbal skills Proficiency in FPGA architecture, design, modeling, simulation, and verification in VHDL or similar. This position requires candidates to be a US Citizen or hold a Green Card.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field Proficiency with EDA design tools (eg. Altium, Orcad, Eagle, Spice) Significant experience with electrical simulation, schematic capture, and PCB layout Proficiency with software and firmware programming, C/C++, Python, JavaScript, or similar programs desired.

Preference will be given to engineers that have cross-discipline expertise.
