C.H. Robinson Senior Manager of Carrier Management in Plainfield, Indiana

**This role may be based in any C.H. Robinson location within the U.S.

Then you may be a good fit for a Senior Manager Carrier Management where you will lead operations across multiple locations with a focus on improving quality, reducing cost and utilizing automation and technology to improve results to ensure tactical operations and operational strategies support our customer and carrier goals within the business line. This involves continuously evaluating opportunities within the business line to streamline work, create efficiencies and improve productivity to achieve objectives. In addition, you will partner with commercial, capacity and operations leaders to execute strategies that maximize and transform our value proposition.

Responsibilities:

Business Strategy & Growth:

  • Execute business line strategies in alignment with customer/carrier strategies, as well as volume and revenue growth expectations. Manage and adjust short and long-term plans as necessary to align with strategic objectives

  • Utilize analytics to drive improved business decision making. Review key operating metrics and service levels to ensure service, quality and costs meet desired expectations.

  • Continually assess the business to identify opportunities to improve quality and lower cost to serve through resource optimization, process improvements, or methods to improve efficiency by utilizing operational or technological enhancements

  • Participates in intelligent process automation design and software development. Directs the implementation of technology or operational enhancements to ensure successful workforce adoption.

  • Review organizational structures within function to ensure alignment with business objectives, efficiency, scale, and growth, including role definition, resource, and headcount alignment

  • Understand transportation market opportunities and trends and, how market conditions may impact business performance and financials

  • Collaborate with operations and commercial leaders to support commercial strategies and organizational transformation, with a focus on customer service

  • Serve as a resource to the network for business development, new customer implementation, and customer business review opportunities

Talent Management:

  • Responsible for leading both local and virtual teams of people managers. Coach and develop individuals towards the achievement of their career goals and performance objectives. Foster teamwork and contribute to team efforts and objectives

  • Conduct talent management routines and assist with overall department resource planning.

  • Assesses, calibrates, and manages talent, leveraging operations, analytics, and observation to align roles and resources appropriately, focuses on and advocates for individual and team development, career pathing and succession planning

  • Clearly communicate Operations objectives and region/team performance metrics. Leverage standups to keep teams well-informed of results and initiatives. Ensure team’s cascade relevant information to their workforce

  • Routinely work with team leaders to assess short- and long-term hiring needs, partnering with Talent Acquisition and managing recruiting vendor relationships to meet teams’ strategy

  • Provide oversight of business lines compensation planning and decisions

Financial Management:

  • Accountable for the financial performance of their business line operations function as measured by the P&L and associated operations reports, including budgeting and expense management

  • Oversee operations budgets, monitors financial reports, metrics, and analytics, and adjusts business processes, strategy, and resources accordingly

  • Prepares data insights that supports their business consolidated financial performance reports for their region’s operations function detailing primary drivers of performance, areas for improvement and competitive analysis

  • Communicates centralized operations strategic plan, financial results, team performance metrics, and adjustments to strategy and/or process to employees on a regular basis

Relationship Management:

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders (capacity, commercial, service line leaders). Remain current on business needs and changes, business opportunities and customer and carrier expectations. Partner on problem resolution and work together on continuous improvement. Take accountability to ensure operations leaders are well-informed of business expectations and well-positioned to deliver

  • Develop, maintain, and leverage internal relationships with operations peers to reinforce execution of high-quality service, ethical issue resolution, and process or service improvements

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a large organization operations function

  • Minimum 4 years of people management experience, preferably managing people leaders

  • Ability to travel up to 20% (domestically)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous C.H. Robinson commercial leadership experience; commercial operations strongly preferred

  • Prior experience leading multiple locations and/or leading virtually

  • Strong knowledge of logistics and transportation industry

  • Experience managing financials for a business segment

  • Ability to understand and communicate financial metrics, including P & L

  • Prior experience in managing complex programs related to cost reduction and workforce effectiveness

  • Broad market and industry knowledge

  • Experience managing cross-functional projects

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency presenting to both internal and external audiences

  • Demonstrated negotiation, collaboration, and influencing skills

  • Experiential knowledge of the application of automation to improve operations

  • Previous experience managing teams across dispersed domestic and international locations
