Assistant Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of the telecom fiber plant, wireless system and other mediums of product delivery. Will assist in the development, operation and maintenance of network infrastructure and Internet services.Typical performance duties include, but are not limited to the following:iInstallation, maintenance and repair of telecom delivery system at customeripremise and to the physical plant.Requires skills in fiber optic splicing and terminations.Evaluate and strategize a full network build-out including IP, LAN/WAN/MAN network topologies, point-to-point, frame relay, and Ethernet.Define and coordinate the delivery of advanced internet working services.i Knowledge of TCP/IP, VPN and Bandwidth Management.Provide pre-sales strategy and post sales engineering support.i Interface with internal clients, industry partners and alliances and vendors to ensure network projects meet Company objectives and expectations.Assist in the development and administering of project expenses and capital budget and staffing plans.Assist in the development of short- and long-term plans to meet client needs.Assist in evaluating technical requests and new technologies for relevance, economic value and compatibility.Proficient use of computer and related software.Position may require on-call status.This position requires occasional aerial work and work in confined spaces.Work with users in research and recommend telecommunications options.Perform other duties assigned in times of special need to assure continuity of service.iBackgroundSupervision:i This position does not require the person to be a direct supervisor of employees but may be expected to lead the activities of others for the purpose of training.i Must be able to work without direct supervision.Training:i This position may require the person to travel to industry related training sessions and seminars.i Overnight and air travel may be required.Confidentiality:i This person works with customer related information.i Confidentiality must be exercised.i It must be understood that any breach of customer confidentiality could damage our customers, which in turn could damage RPandL.Mental Application:i High degree of decision-making ability required.i Must be able to think in abstract terms and anticipate future trends in the industry.Responsibility:i Has a high level of responsibility.Contacts:i High degree of internal and external contacts.Expenditures:i Must work within a defined budget and accounting system.WorkingiConditions:i Work is to be performed both indoors and outdoors. There may be a need to spend time in areas of high noise, dust or a damp environment.Equipment:i This position will require working with general office and sensitive electronic equipment (electronic standards, computers, test and measurement devices).i This position also requires driving company vehicles.iQualifications:iEngineering or equivalent degree, with a minimum of five years experience in telecommunications network topologies and design. Telephony experience a plus.Thorough knowledge of T-1, T-3, Frame Relay, and Ethernet environments.Comprehensive knowledge of router and switch technologies.Must be physically, mentally and psychologically able to perform all the required duties.Proficient in fiber optic splicing and terminations. Knowledgeable in OTDR testing.Must possess ability to work in a team environment.Requires excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of self-motivation.Must be proficient in basic computer programs.Must be able to lift 70 pounds.Must be willing to maintain a neat and orderly appearance due to working in the public view.Must have a valid driveris license.
