As a Lead Engineer for Manufacturing Technology Inc., based in South Bend, Indiana, you will take ownership for the design and engineering analysis of the company's large capital equipment as well as component specification, detailing and checking, when required.i Using your knowledge of the principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, materials combined with your analysis skills, you will actively seek new ways to improve upon the existing designs by creating detailed drawings for friction welding machinery, special tooling and ancillary equipment.i Leveraging your capital equipment design background and demonstrated experience working with mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic design documents, you will establish design requirements from customer specifications, which will allow you to generate concepts that get turned into detailed drawings in a 3D CAD environment.RESPONSIBILITIES:iPrepares mechanical design, and detail drawings using 3D CAD and other engineering tools, laboratory equipment and engineering analysis software.iPrepares detailed lists of parts, detail drawings, and materials (bills of materials) required to complete the project, as required.iReviews and closely follows customer specifications and requirements for machines, tooling and automation during manufacture of machines, tooling and automation.iContinuously improves engineering processes.iHelps develop strategies and processes to ensure on-time delivery of equipment, cost reduction opportunities and performance improvement.Good working knowledge of designing and specifying components for high-force machines and handling systems.iUnderstanding of manufacturing environment, including machining processes, workflow, assembly processes, cycle time and quality and delivery expectations.iPromotes cultural values and behavior in others (Respectful, Purposeful, Integrity, Collaborative, Adaptable, Positive Attitude, Excellence, Effective Communication, Self-motivated, Responsible, Recognition and Appreciation)iMentor and train junior engineers assigned by Assistant Chief Engineer during projects.iMay be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products.iMay lead and direct the work of others.iPerform other assignments, as requested by supervisor or manager.REQUIRED SKILLS:Must have design experience on high-force equipment/heavy equipmentMust have 3 to 5 yearsi experience with Machine Tool-type equipmentMust have excellent communication and leadership skillsComputer skills; SolidWorks (preferred), AutoCAD 2D, and Microsoft Office productsMust have an extensive background with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks or similar 3D softwareAbility to read mechanical drawings and understand dimensional tolerancesMust be eligible to work in the U.S. permanentlyHydraulic circuit designHydraulic component hardware and specificationAbility to perform fluid and thermal analysis and sizing calculationsBackground with PDM (Product Data Management) system (preferably SolidWorks PDM)
