Cook Medical Electrical Engineer, Bench Testing in West Lafayette, Indiana


The Bench Testing Engineer position requires a technically sound engineer with electrical engineering aptitude capable of four primary roles including: feasibility testing to support the creation of novel medical devices; design verification testing to support device development and regulatory approval; post-approval testing to support clinical and/or marketing activities; and developing and validating novel test methods.


• Evaluate the design and performance of medical devices during imaging (e.g., MRI, fluoroscopy, endoscopy), during electrosurgery, and under other electrical, mechanical and chemical challenges

• Challenge medical devices through testing such as electrochemical corrosion, simulative clinical use and accelerated fatigue

• Develop and validate test methods, and conduct tests in compliance with various international standards

• Create and maintain well-controlled documentation, including written protocols, data forms and reports

Other activities may include, but are not limited to:

• Technical and project management collaboration with global project teams in support of their projects

• Test plan development

• Standard committee involvement

• Research related to defining clinically relevant test conditions


•M.S. in electrical or biomedical engineering; or comparable degree, electrical engineering aptitude and experience required

• Previous experience with benchtop medical device testing preferred

• Familiarity with test method validation and statistics desired

• Experience with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) requirements preferred

•A hard-working, enthusiastic, detail-oriented person with strong written and verbal communication skills, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills

• Must be able to work in a team setting and must be willing to be trained
